Rachael Vince
Artist Bio:
Light touches us with an evergreen quality, passing through our hardest frosts and darkest seasons,
revealing our true essence. My figurative oil paintings are honest explorations of the self, engaging in a
dialogue between the conscious and unconscious. Tracing the ordinary contours of the body, I feel the
familiarity of their form wither away. Symbols arrive to my work from dreams—primordial images which
act as taproots into subterranean landscapes. The inner turnings of my work seek to nurture this complex
relationship with dreams—restless tides who, every once in a while, wash up gifts of smooth glass and
stone. My influences range from Kathe Kollwitz and Kiki Smith to Hilma af Klint. Although I specialize
in traditional oil painting, my practice includes Jewelry, Ceramics, Mosaics, and Poetry.
